Barrels of Sake at Meiji Jingu Shrine, Tokyo, Nov 2016

1/80 at f/4.0 ISO 125

Walking from Harajuku, through Yoyogi Park towards Meiji Jingu Shrine, we passed this display of huge kazaridaru – barrels of sake – donated by brewers across Japan to honour the gods and deities of the Shrine. Although the display is mainly decorative, the sake is used for ceremonial purposes on occasion.
